RESPONSIBILITIES
Laura Benavides joined Trustmoore’s Amsterdam office in October 2019 as Business Compliance Assistant and (after four months) she took on her current role as Junior Compliance Officer.

She is responsible for providing ad-hoc advice, guidance and support to financial and legal account managers on the full range of compliance topics (including anti-money laundering, sanctions and privacy) in accordance with the relevant regulations.

FOCUS
Laura’s main responsibility is to support the financial and legal account managers in processing client acceptance and client file reviews, and in ensuring accuracy and completeness of client files. She also assists with compliance issues throughout the client’s life cycle (acceptance, due diligence, transaction monitoring, periodic reviews, and exit).

Across the business, Laura provides training and support to continuously enhance awareness and understanding of compliance risks and regulations, while also establishing and implementing effective processes and procedures to mitigate these risks.

EDUCATION
Laura has a bachelor’s degree in law from the Universidad Autónoma de Bucaramanga and a master’s in advanced legal studies from the Universtat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. To complete her master’s degree in 2018, she wrote a thesis on the consequences of using big data in compliance programs.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
Laura began her career as a professional support lawyer at PymeLegal in Spain, specializing in the implementation of GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation). She subsequently worked as a legal and compliance consultant at Coldret in Columbia before moving to Amsterdam to join the Trustmoore Group in 2019.
